Calibration Guide
OrcaSlicer includes built-in calibration tools to optimize your printer settings. Follow this guide to achieve the best print quality.
Recommended Calibration Order
For best results, perform calibrations in this order:
- Temperature - Find optimal nozzle temperature
- Max Volumetric Speed - Establish flow rate limits
- Pressure Advance - Tune for clean corners
- Flow Rate - Calibrate extrusion amount
- Retraction - Eliminate stringing
- Tolerance - Fine-tune dimensional accuracy
Calibration Tests
Temperature Tower
Print sections at different temperatures to find optimal nozzle temp for your filament.
Flow Rate Test
Two-pass calibration to dial in exact extrusion multiplier.
Pressure Advance
Pattern test to find optimal PA value for clean corners and consistent extrusion.
Retraction Test
Tower test to find optimal retraction length and speed.
Tolerance Test
Calibrate dimensional accuracy for precise part fitment.
Input Shaping
Advanced calibration to reduce ringing/ghosting artifacts.
Accessing Calibration in OrcaSlicer
- Open OrcaSlicer
- Go to Calibration menu in the top toolbar
- Select the desired calibration test
- Follow the on-screen instructions
- Print the test and analyze results
- Enter the calibrated value into your filament/printer profile
Tips for Successful Calibration
- Start fresh: Begin with a clean nozzle and level bed
- Use consistent conditions: Same room temperature and humidity
- Document values: Record your calibrated values for each filament
- Re-calibrate when needed: After changing nozzles, filament brands, or major settings
- One at a time: Only change one setting at a time to understand its effect
